2027 Range Rover EV: 531-km Luxury Electric SUV Preview

The 2027 Range Rover EV is the brand’s first fully electric flagship SUV. At first glance, it still looks and feels like a Range Rover. However, it now uses an 800-volt electric system, a 118 kWh battery, and a claimed 531 km of range.

What the 2027 Range Rover EV is

The 2027 Range Rover EV sits on JLR’s Modular Longitudinal Architecture. That platform was designed for both gas and battery models. In addition, it supports standard and long wheelbases. As a result, Range Rover says this EV has the stiffest chassis in the nameplate’s history.

Inside, the cabin is almost the same as the gas version from the carpet up. Outside, though, the EV uses a blanked-off grille and aero wheels. Meanwhile, a frunk sits under the hood. The electric model is about 75 kg heavier than the gas version. Even so, its centre of gravity is 88 mm lower.

Power, range, and charging

A 118 kWh double-stacked battery feeds in-house electric drive units. Combined output is 550 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. Official range is 531 km.

The 800-volt system can charge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes under ideal conditions. Range Rover also claims about 320 km of range in 15 minutes on a DC fast charger. On Level 2 power at 22 kW, a near-empty pack can reach full in about seven hours.

A NACS charge port sits on the rear passenger side. Dual ports are optional. Vehicle-to-load will be available at launch. After that, vehicle-to-grid support is planned.

Driving and off-road ability

Range Rover quotes 0-96 km/h in 4.3 seconds. The V8 model was the benchmark for power and handling. In addition, five drive modes have been recalibrated for EV use and include one-pedal driving. Regen strength changes with the selected mode. However, there is no separate manual regen control.

Off-road numbers still match the V8 in several areas. For example, it offers a 45-degree rolling climb, a 33.2-degree approach angle, a 28.1-degree departure angle, and 900 mm of wading depth. Traction control is also said to react much faster than in the gas model. Towing capacity is 2,500 kg, or 5,511 lb.

A short off-road loop at the reveal suggested the EV still feels like a Range Rover on rough ground. A fuller first drive is expected later.

Canada timing

JLR reports strong interest, including many North American shoppers new to the brand. Canadian arrivals are expected in the first quarter of 2027. Pricing has not been confirmed yet.

In short, the 2027 Range Rover EV aims to keep the luxury and off-road identity of the flagship SUV. At the same time, it adds fast charging and long claimed range. For more luxury EV coverage, see NextEV and our electric SUV reviews.
