2027 Kia EV5 Canada: First Drive and Prices
he 2027 Kia EV5 Canada is now at dealers. It is a midsize electric SUV built for this market, not the United States. Kia is holding it back from U.S. stores for now because of tariffs. Canadian cars come from the Gwangju plant in South Korea.
That makes the EV5 a Canada-only Kia in North America. It sits between the EV4 and the old EV6, with a more traditional SUV shape than either.
Price and power
The Light FWD starts at $43,495. The GT-Line AWD starts at $57,995. Kia also lists a GT-Line Limited AWD at $61,495. All-wheel drive costs $2,500 more than the matching front-drive trim.
The base Light FWD uses a 60.3 kWh pack, 214 horsepower, and a rated range of 335 km. Every other trim gets an 81.4 kWh pack, a heat pump, and up to 457 km. AWD models make 261 horsepower.
A NACS port is standard, so Tesla Superchargers are in play with the right access.
Driving says every EV5 can get the federal $5,000 rebate because the line starts under $50,000. Check that claim. Current EVAP rules use the final transaction value, and the car is not Canadian-built. Light FWD and Wind FWD are the safe bets. A $49,995 Wind AWD or Land FWD can miss the cap once fees land on the contract.
How it drives
The battery sits low, so the EV5 feels stable. Acceleration is quick but smooth, which helps on highway ramps. Steering is medium weight. It fits a family SUV more than a sport car.
Five modes cover normal, eco, sport, snow, and MyDrive. Eco is the daily pick. i-Pedal 3.0 makes one-pedal driving easy in traffic. The A-pillar and mirror area block a bit of the view. That is the main driving flaw.
Skip the Light FWD if you can. A 335 km rating is tight for Canadian winters. The $2,500 step to AWD is worth it if the contract still qualifies for EVAP. Wind or Land with the big battery is the practical middle.
The cabin is well equipped for the price. The shape looks more like the EV9 than the EV4. That should help it with buyers who want an SUV, not a hatch.
