Equinox EV under $50k Canada 2026: How Dealers Do It
An Equinox EV under $50k is the version that can still get the federal EVAP rebate. That $5,000 credit is why Chevy and Equinox EV led EVAP claims in August 2026. Cross the cap, and the same SUV suddenly costs much more.
The Equinox EV is built in Mexico, so the $50,000 final-transaction cap applies. Canadian-made EVs can skip that cap. This one cannot.
Why the sticker sits right on the line
Canadian list prices for the 2026 Equinox EV sit close to the limit:
- LT FWD starts around $46,199
- LT AWD is about $49,699
- RS trims start near $51,199
Freight and PDI add about $2,600. A/C tax and dealer fees can add more. So a “$49,699” AWD LT is not automatically rebate-eligible once fees and options land on the contract.
FWD LT is the easy path. AWD LT only works if the dealer cuts the signed vehicle price. RS is usually over the cap unless Chevy or the store discount it hard.
Rated range is the reason buyers still want it. FWD models can reach about 513 km. AWD is lower but still strong for a compact SUV. DC fast charging tops out around 150 kW.
How dealers get an Equinox EV under $50k
Dealers do not rewrite EVAP. They change the contract.
They start with LT, not RS. Then they keep packages off the deal. A sunroof, bigger wheels, a convenience pack, or AWD can push the number over $50,000.
They also use factory delivery allowances. Chevy has advertised thousands off some Equinox EV deals this year. That discount comes off before EVAP, which is what brings AWD examples back under the cap.
They move extras off the vehicle price. A Level 2 charger, adapter, or winter tires may sit on a separate line. EVAP does not treat every add-on the same way. Ask what counts toward the $50,000 figure.
They lease instead of buying when the monthly math is better. A 12-month-plus lease can still get EVAP, but a short lease pays less than $5,000.
What you should ask in writing
Ask for the final transaction value before tax. That is the number Transport Canada cares about.
Then ask:
- Is this LT or RS?
- Is AWD included in that $50,000 number?
- Which packages are on the contract?
- Is freight inside or outside the EVAP figure at this store?
- What happens if the rebate is denied?
If the salesperson cannot show the cap math on paper, walk.
Buy this one, skip that one
Buy a discounted LT if you want the rebate. Skip a loaded RS if you need EVAP. In Quebec, stack Roulez vert only if the car is registered in 2026. That provincial extra ends December 31.
An Equinox EV under $50k is a paperwork win, not a mystery trim. Keep the contract thin, take the factory cash, and lock the rebate before you add toys.
