Apple’s EV Delayed Until 2028

Apple has again postponed its entry into the market of its electric car. In December 2022, it was reported that it would appear in 2026, but now, as Bloomberg writes, the company expects to launch the car no earlier than 2028. At the same time, its design will be significantly simplified.

It was initially assumed that Apple’s electric car, unofficially known as iCar, would receive a level 4 autonomous control system—that is, it would be able to move almost independently. However, after several years of development, the company’s management lowered its expectations to level 2+, that is, to the degree of autonomy that, for example, Tesla and a number of Chinese manufacturers already have.

Apple, according to insiders, expects to eventually increase the autonomy of the iCar to the originally planned level 4, but after entering the market. However, at this stage the very existence of the project was under threat. If Apple does not complete development and find production partners in the remaining time, the project of its own electric car may be closed completely.

In October last year, users of the then new iPhone15 found out that trying to charge a smartphone on wireless devices from BMW and one of the Toyota models disables the gadget. It took the company about a month to release an update that solved this problem.
