VW ID.4 Recall Canada 2026: Limit Charge to 80%

The VW ID.4 Recall Canada covers certain 2023, 2024, and 2025 models. Transport Canada lists it as recall 2026469. About 5,633 ID.4s in Canada are included. In the United States the related recall covers roughly 22,524 vehicles from 2023 through 2026.

Volkswagen says the high-voltage battery can overheat on certain vehicles. That creates a fire risk even when the car is parked and turned off. Until a permanent repair is ready, owners should set the maximum charge limit to 80 percent.

What owners should do now

Limit charging to 80 percent. Do not use a higher setting while the investigation continues. Volkswagen will notify owners by mail. The company has not yet identified the exact cause or released a permanent fix. Some vehicles may later receive an automatic 80 percent restriction.

You can check whether your ID.4 is included through Volkswagen Canada or the Transport Canada recalls database. Use your VIN.

Why this matters

This is not the first high-voltage issue on the ID.4. Earlier recalls also touched the battery system. Volkswagen is preparing to replace the ID.4 with the new ID. Tiguan. Timing for the Canadian version is not confirmed yet.

Owners who rely on the full range for longer trips will feel the 80 percent limit. Plan extra stops or use the car’s own route planner so the battery warms before a DC stop.

What buyers should know

If you are shopping a used 2023–2025 ID.4, ask the seller for the recall status and any service records. Confirm the charge limit is set correctly before you drive away. A permanent repair is still under development.
