Saudi Arabia Police Department Switching to Electric Car with Drones on the Top

The first electric police vehicle, the Lucid Air, was unveiled at the World Defense Exhibition in Riyadh. The special version is distinguished from a civilian sports car by the black and white livery of Saudi Arabian law enforcement officers and a special box with a drone and a take-off pad for it, installed on the roof.

The container opens automatically, after which the copter is immediately ready to launch. But which version of the electric car formed the basis of police cars is not specified.

Today, Lucid Air is offered to customers in four versions. The basic Pure version is equipped with a 436-horsepower electric motor mounted on the rear axle, as well as a battery with a capacity of 88 kWh. Acceleration to 60 mph (97 km/h) takes the model 4.5 seconds, and on a single battery charge it travels up to 660 kilometers.

The more expensive Grand Touring modification has a 1065-horsepower twin-engine power plant, and its range reaches 719 kilometers. The top version of the Air Sapphire is equipped with a power plant with three electric motors, producing 1200 horsepower and providing acceleration to 97 km/h in 1.86 seconds.

The price range for a “green” sports car varies from 77.4 to 249 thousand dollars.

Production of electric vehicles began in Saudi Arabia in the fall of 2023 from vehicle kits supplied by the headquarters in Arizona. During this time, about 800 electric cars were assembled at the site. According to the agreement concluded in 2022, in the next 10 years, the American manufacturer will supply the country’s police with 100k of these electric vehicles.

Today, 62% of the company’s shares are owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Fund (RIF). The total government investment in the enterprise amounted to about $10 billion.
