Rivian to Launch Affordable Electric Crossover on March 7
The American manufacturer of electric pickups and SUVs, has not officially announced the premiere date of its model. However, as users of the Rivian Forums resource wrote, it became known after the leak of Rivian correspondence with the authorities of the city of Laguna Beach in California. The company asks for their assistance in organizing an event, which will be held on March 7 and will be dedicated to the presentation of the new model.
Rivian approached the city authorities with a request to allocate part of the territory of one of the city parks for the event. Attached to the correspondence is an approximate diagram of the placement of cars in this area, and the drawing is accompanied by a remark “Launch of Rivian R2” . The company’s intentions to show the new model are confirmed by other quotes from official requests.
Rivian itself has also repeatedly announced plans to expand the line with models that are more affordable than the current R1T and R1S. Patents have already been issued for similar indices from R2 to R5. In addition, the head of the company, RJ Scaring, once spoke about the debut of Rivian R2, scheduled for early 2024.
According to the main version, the R2 will be a more compact crossover than the current R1S and will cost between 40 and 60 thousand dollars. Most likely, it will retain some of the adventure image of the flagship models but will be positioned as a more utilitarian and urban electric car.
In October, the company secured a new dose of fame through participation in the Rebelle Rally. For the first time in the history of the conservative race, which does not allow the use of electronic navigation aids, it was won by an electric pickup truck. One of the crews racing the Rivian R1T was the first to reach the finish line.
