China Introduced Thinnest Battery for Commercial EV’s

The SAIC – GM – Wuling joint venture has unveiled a new battery for commercial “new energy vehicles” that it claims is the thinnest in its segment. According to CnEVPost , the battery pack called Wuling Red 1 is only 148 millimeters thick. Its use will increase the volume of the cargo compartment.

Wuling did not specify which battery cells are in the battery, nor whether the company produces them independently or purchases them externally. It is known that Wuling Red 1 supports “fast” charging, which allows you to replenish the energy reserve from 30 to 80 percent in half an hour.

In addition, the battery received an advanced liquid cooling system, presumably the first in this class. There is a temperature control system that constantly maintains the optimal mode: cooling is activated when 38 degrees Celsius is exceeded and turns off at 35 degrees.

After 4 thousand charge-discharge cycles, the battery pack should retain over 80% of its original capacity. During extreme tests, these batteries never caught fire or exploded, and they are now in mass production.

Earlier this month, the Chinese brand Wuling announced a new electric car – the Bingo Plus crossover. The new product with an expected price of less than 100 thousand yuan (1.25 million rubles) will receive a single 102-horsepower electric motor and a 50.6-kilowatt-hour battery.
