Tesla and the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have announced a service campaign that will affect 199,575 electric cars. When reversing, the image from the rearview camera is displayed incorrectly. Tesla promises to improve the situation with a software update, but in the meantime, it offers owners of such electric cars to use side mirrors.
It is believed that the failure was caused by a software conflict that arose after the last scheduled firmware update on Tesla electric cars. The company became aware of this problem in late December last year, and to date, Tesla has received more than 80 warranty repair requests. It is emphasized that the manufacturer is not aware of any incidents that occurred for this reason.
Tesla service centers have already been notified of the release of a “patch” that eliminates this conflict, while the company will begin notifying owners of potentially faulty electric cars only in March. Most likely, you won’t need to visit the dealer; the update will be installed over the air. The service campaign will include the 2023 Model S, Model X, and Model Y.
Previously, Tesla, at the initiative of NHTSA, released a massive software update to optimize the operation of the semi-autonomous control system. Initially, it was limited to the US market, but subsequently, the Chinese authorities also demanded a similar “patch”.
