The Quebec EV rebate ending is set for December 31, 2026. After that date, Roulez vert pays $0 on a newly registered EV. The clock follows the registration date, not the day you put down a deposit.
That is the part many buyers miss. Order the car in November and take delivery in January, and the provincial rebate can vanish.
What Quebec still pays in 2026
Roulez vert is smaller than it used to be. For a vehicle registered in 2026:
- New fully electric vehicle: up to $2,000
- Plug-in hybrid with a 15 kWh battery or larger: up to $1,000
- Plug-in hybrid with 8 to under 15 kWh: up to $500
- Used fully electric vehicle: up to $1,000
In 2027 those provincial amounts drop to zero under the current rules.
What does not end
The federal EVAP program continues. In 2026 a qualifying new battery EV can still get $5,000. In 2027 that federal amount falls to $4,000. The usual cap is a $50,000 final transaction value, unless the vehicle is made in Canada.
So a Quebec buyer who qualifies for both programs can still stack:
- 2026: up to $7,000 on a new battery EV
- 2027: $4,000 federal only, if the car still meets EVAP rules
Home charging help is separate. Quebec moved much of that support into Écorecharge, which is scheduled past 2026. Check that program if you need a Level 2 station.
Buy now if
Buy before year-end if you already need a car and can register it in 2026. The extra $2,000 is real money. Delivery delays are the risk. Ask the dealer for a written registration date, not just an order date.
This also matters for used EVs. The $1,000 used rebate ends with the program too.
Wait if
Wait if the car you want will not arrive until 2027. A deposit will not lock in the 2026 amount. Quebec already said the rebate follows registration, not the order.
Wait if you are counting on a political reboot. One party has talked about bringing Roulez vert back. That is a campaign promise, not current law.
Also wait if the vehicle will miss EVAP’s $50,000 cap. Losing the federal $5,000 hurts more than missing Quebec’s $2,000.
A simple decision
If the dealer can register an EVAP-eligible car in Quebec before December 31, 2026, buying now usually wins. You keep up to $7,000 in stacked rebates. If delivery slips into 2027, you keep only the federal program, and that federal cheque also shrinks next year.
