Quebec EV Rebate Ending 2026 Buy Now or Wait

Quebec EV rebate ending 2026 remains the official plan under current rules, yet the recent provincial election has created uncertainty. The Parti Québécois won the election and has promised to keep the Roulez vert incentive alive beyond December 31, 2026. Buyers in Quebec now face a timing decision.

Current Roulez vert rules

In 2026, Quebec offers up to $2,000 for a new fully electric vehicle and $1,000 for a qualifying used EV bought from a dealer. Plug-in hybrids receive $500 or $1,000 depending on battery size. The amount depends on the registration date, not the order date. Vehicles registered in 2027 currently receive $0 under the existing schedule.

The program stacks with the federal EVAP rebate of up to $5,000, giving Quebec buyers a potential total of $7,000 in 2026.

What the PQ has promised

The Parti Québécois formed a minority government after the October 2026 election. During the campaign, the party said it would maintain the $2,000 incentive for EVs priced under $50,000 and phase it out gradually over several years. It also floated a larger amount for models under $35,000. However, these plans are not yet official, and a minority government may face challenges implementing them quickly.

Should Quebec buyers act now?

If you register a vehicle before December 31, 2026, you lock in the current $2,000 provincial rebate under existing rules. Waiting carries the risk that the program ends as scheduled if the extension does not happen in time. At the same time, the federal rebate drops from $5,000 to $4,000 starting January 1, 2027.

Several affordable EVs already qualify for both incentives this year. These include the 2027 Nissan Leaf S, 2027 Kia EV3, and 2026 Fiat 500e.
