BMW has published a new teaser for the five-door modification of the new generation 5 Series. The description clarifies that the teaser shows the M version of the BMW i5 in a new body for the model: in fact, this is the first official demonstration of an electric station wagon, which was not previously in the family. The debut date has not yet been announced, but, according to some assumptions, this will happen in the coming weeks.
Now the BMW 5 Series has only one modification with electric motors and the M index – the M60 xDrive. It is equipped with two engines with a total power of 601 hp. and 820 Nm, which allow the sedan to accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 230 km/h. Apparently, the i5 M-station wagon will also receive a similar setup.
Based on the teaser video, we can also conclude that the i5 Touring in the M version will be equipped with a more advanced body kit from M Performance with different bumpers and mirror housings, as well as its own set of rims.
BMW published the first image of the station wagon without mentioning technical details in October last year. Then it was specified that the five-door would go on sale in European countries, as well as in the UK, Norway, Japan and Taiwan. In addition, the company has already officially announced a full-fledged M5 Touring, which is expected to be equipped with a hybrid powertrain from the XM crossover.
