The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt is back as one of Canada’s most affordable new electric cars. A road trip from Toronto to Deep River, Ontario, put its range, charging, and everyday comfort to a real test. The drive covers about 420 kilometres each way on highways and two-lane roads.
Range and Battery
The Bolt uses a 65 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. Official range is 422 km. The LFP chemistry is the big change. Drivers can charge to 100 percent often without the same long-term wear concerns seen in many other EVs.
That matters on a trip this length. Two people and fishing gear made a charging stop likely. Still, the usable range is strong for the price.
Charging on the Road
The 2027 Bolt is the first GM model in Canada with a Tesla-style NACS port. That opens Tesla Destination Chargers and many Superchargers.
Peak DC charging is 150 kW. The trip saw that peak several times. A 10 to 80 percent charge took about 25 minutes. Payment works through the Tesla app or MyChevrolet app.
One issue is cable reach. The charge port location can force tight or angled parking at some Tesla stalls.
Driving and Space
A single front motor makes 210 horsepower and 169 lb-ft of torque. That is enough for highway merging and daily traffic. The ride is smooth. The low battery and long wheelbase help the small car feel settled on the highway.
Rear-seat legroom is generous. Cargo space is not. Two carry-on bags barely fit in the trunk. Extra bags had to go in the back seat.
Google built-in navigation plans charging stops well. It does not always update the plan if you use less energy than expected.
Price in Canada
The Bolt LT starts at $39,999. The RS starts at $42,599. Freight and options raise the on-road price. Even so, it remains one of the lowest-priced new EVs in Canada.
The 2027 Bolt EV review shows a practical, comfortable, and well-priced electric car. Fast NACS charging and an LFP battery that can take full charges make it useful for Ontario road trips. Limited cargo space is the main trade-off. For buyers who want an affordable EV with real highway capability, the Bolt still makes a strong case.
